The Old School Tape Recorder

Today, in the 21st century, when parking ticket victims go to fight their tickets, their live hearings are recorded by a computer on a network. The networked computer replaced the old school audio cassette tape recorder. Which the judge would press a record button on the tape recorder to record the live hearing.

It was in full sight of the judge and the victim. You knew a record of your hearing was being made.

Now that a computer has replaced the old tape recorder. The NYC Dept. of Fraud never explains to the victims that an audio record of your live hearings exist. Most victims are totally unaware that this very helpful resource exists. Which they could use to fight their bogus parking tickets. Even after having been found guilty.

Which brings us to Dave's parking ticket fighting story.

The assistant manager at my day job, Dave, told me one of his parking ticket fighting stories when he lived and drove in NYC. When he was a younger single man. Now he lives in NJ with his wife and three kids.

Some time in the 1990s he fought a bogus ticket at a live hearing. In those ancient times, there was an old school tape recorder on the desk of the judge. Who would in full sight press the record button before the start of your live hearing.

Dave used the same exact tactic I advise others to do. Demand a copy of the tape of your live hearing. Which he did.

He was found guilty at his live hearing by some Nazi judge. So he demanded a copy of the tape.

And guess what? His ticket was dismissed, and he was refunded in full.

He didn't understand why his ticket was dismissed. He was just happy to get his money back.

He never put 2 and 2 together. Until I explained it to him. And I thought he was a pretty sharp guy. Go figure.

Parking Tix in the News

PTF: "Are parking ticket fighters in Boston smarter than the PTFs in NYC? Of course, not. PTFs in Boston have unbiased and neutral parking ticket judges. We in NYC have to deal with Nazi traffic agents and Nazi judges."

Mar. 29, 2009, The Boston Globe:
"With the Proper Appeal, Parking Ticket May Go Away"
by Peter DeMarco

PTF: "Here are the numbers. Boston issued 771,531 tickets during the last half of 2008. Parking ticket fighters fought 56,838 tickets. The City of Boston's Parking Ticket Department dismissed 36,849 out of the 56,838 tickets. Or 65%."
